The Beaucastel family lived in Courthézon the mid-sixteenth century. For 1549 Pierre de Beaucastel buys “a barn with its tenement of land containing 52 saumées sitting at Coudoulet”. Later, the mansion we know today, was built here and, in a small room in a French ceiling, the arms of the Beaucastel will be carved in stone. Pierre de Beaucastel obtained in 1687 Louis XIV, in recognition of his conversion to Catholicism, load “Captain of the City of Courthézon”. The letter of Louis XIV, also signed by Colbert, is still in possession of current owners.
For 1909 Peter takes the field Tramier. Then passed to his son, Pierre Perrin, scientist who gives off in the field, boom boosted by Jacques Perrin, which gives its luster to Beaucastel until 1978. Today the torch is in the hands of Jean-Pierre and François, the son of Jacques Perrin, but Mark, Peter and Thomas, representing the fifth generation, sont déjà prêts à prendre la relève !
The local Beaucastel is marked by violence Rhone. It consists of a bench of the Miocene marine molasse, covered by an alpine diluvium. The estate cultivates the thirteen grape varieties permitted in Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
Chemical fertilizers are banned and replaced by a compost prepared to property, which, once applied in the vineyard floor, it maintains its rate of humus and micro-biological balance. Treatments are minimized, nutrition very rational land allows “exacerbate the physiology of the plant and its natural resistance” thereby avoid the escalation of chemical treatments, radically destructive of any parasite but, by imbalance, generate the resurgence of other forms of parasitism. Today, bees and birds, crickets and beetles are very numerous at Beaucastel.
The vintage, exclusively picked by hand, is carefully picked his arrival at the cellar. Only the best grapes are vinified. After picking off a total, the grapes are fermented in temperature-controlled chamber for traditional 15 days. All varieties tanks are separately, each with its character, aromas, originality. Fermentation is complete, Each wine is tasted each variety in order to form a single batch. This is painstaking work since the Perrin family, according to the percentages, Moreover, different each year, determines the quality, originality and specificity of each vintage. It is an expression of terroir in a given year.
The wine is then put into oak barrels where it will age for a year before bottling.
