Should you sell your futures 2008 ?

The burgundy 2008, now bottled and delivered to those who had reserved premiere, are gradually emerging in auctions. At price levels which show, some raw, nice gains. Should we sell now ?

For the moment the burgundy 2008 are still rare in catalogs. But the price levels recorded confirms what everyone had begun to realize at the output of firsts 2009 : the vintage 2008 may well be THE bargain of the decade.

Take the case of Chateau Latour. Some fans were able to acquire the 2008 to 192 € (TTC). More generally, the average price of futures is identified for this wine to 259 € (source : http://bleguern.fr/). And today, the first awards show a rating of € 816 ... ! Same situation for Chateau Mouton Rothschild. This premier cru Pauillac which is leading the largest increases in recent months, is no exception to the 2008. Acquired, by merchant, between 163 and 195 €, it is currently trading at auction in nearly 700 €. And we dare hardly mention the case of wines Château Lafite Rothschild, offered between € 179 and € 259 a bottle premiere, they have now crossed the threshold of € 1,000 (1099€ on the last auction) in the auctions of wines....

The first crus, if they register price increases lightning, not exclusive of the trend. At another level of prices, the second wine Chateau Lafite, the Carruades de Lafite, which had been proposed between 49 and € 54 premiere, is now worth just over € 320 at auction. No wonder that this wine, in the wake of his elder, ignites Asian markets. Other classified growths, particularly attractive en primeur, also showed a dramatic price increase. This is particularly the case Chateau Leoville Barton, one of the best value for the price of the primeur campaign 2008 : sold between 34 and € 39 at the time, his score stood at € 64 auction. On other raw, more expensive premiere, the gain is significant, but lower. For example, the Chateau Pape Clement, sold € 89 premiere, is now worth € 116.

On the right bank, Chateau Angelus, who bought between 80 and 85 € during the campaign early, reached € 110 in sales.

The factors that contributed to outbid the market price of 2008 are several orders. On the most speculative thought, sought by the Asian market, figure 8, good luck in China, has undoubtedly played. An opportunity that neither Lafite, Mouton Rothschild or have missed. The first hit of his bottles 2008 an emblem of good luck. Meanwhile, the Castle Mouton Rothschild 2008, Baroness de Rothschild appealed to the Chinese artist Xu Lei to make the illustration of its label. Otherwise, the intake of air created by Asian demand caused the price increase that is known about the vintage 2009, then 2010 en primeur. Passing, mechanically, the price of 2008 as an excellent deal. Despite the warnings of Robert Parker (See below our article on this topic), this policy of exponential increase in prices has resulted in the price bid, Auction, of these 2008, once bottled and delivered to purchasers. It is undeniable that the market is willing to pay a higher price than the price Scoop on wines of this vintage, at least for the wine category may record global demand. Today is a good case of fifty brands. And, probably tomorrow, much more : the vintage 2008 has undeniably bright future !
