It was rumored for some time, the info was recently released on the web : Decelle Olivier and Pierre-Jean Villa have joined forces to start a wine business in Burgundy.
It may seem incongruous and yet nothing more logic to this incursion Burgundy for two friends.
Pierre-Jean Villa, installed from 2003 in the Rhone wines with Vienna, and more recently with its own domain, initially worked extensively in Burgundy, and in particular in Boisset and Clos de Tart.
For Olivier Decelle, experience is any new, but as he says mischievously : “learn to make wine from the pinot noir will help us to make wine from Grenache !” With one foot already in the Bordeaux (Chateau Jean Faure, a Saint-Emilion Grand Cru neighbor White Horse and Dominica, High Maurac in the Médoc and Haut-Ballet to Fronsac), the other in Roussillon with Mas Amiel, it is not sure what will look like his schedule but he trusted. “We're not there to revolutionize Burgundy wines. But I think there's still room to make good wines, and it is the ambition that we have. We have two vinified the 1982 or 1990, – 2009 and 2010 – and for now we are happy with the results“.
On vinification – taking place in Nuits-Saint-Georges in a cellar rented Bichot and very well equipped – are supervised by Pierre-Jean Villa, recently joined by a former elder of Bouchard. The aim is to produce maximum 100 000 of bottles white wine and red wine.
For the time being, both partners have leased three acres of Savigny-lès-Beaune and Burgundy appellation. The contracts cover purchases of grapes throughout Burgundy Mâconnais in the Côte de Nuits.
The wines of Maison Villa Decelle cover a large range with wines from Saint-Veran, Saint-Aubin, Volnay, Pommard, Nuits-Saint-Georges, Marsannay, and some First Growths. To be continued, and especially to taste !
