Clos de Vougeot was formed from the 12th century by monks of the abbey of Citeaux. This set is surrounded by walls next to Musigny, adjacent to the Chambertin and Romanee. It is in the midst of these prestigious terroirs, probably the most coveted of all red Burgundy that stands the Chateau de la Tour.
Located in the upper, not far from the mansion Cistercian (property of the Knights of Tastevin), it is the only one within the walls of the Clos de Vougeot. The area of Vineyards the area is just under 6 hectares. Castle Tower is by far the largest owner of Clos de Vougeot.
Built in 1890, its original function was to shelter the crops of the Clos de Vougeot 1885 and 1886, purchased in their entirety by an ancestor of the current owners. At the time, the wines had to cross the walls to be shipped to customers in sealed bottles, sous peine de perdre leur appellation.
Remained in the hands of the same family, the field has been passed several times from father to daughter. The management is currently provided by François Labet. The Chateau de la Tour is one of the Grands Crus of Burgundy, whose production is strictly limited to 35 hectoliters per hectare, ie the equivalent of a half bottle par cep ! In a normal year, la production ne dépasse pas 25 000 bottles.

Clos de Vougeot Vieilles Vignes du Château de La Tour
A one hectare plot in the middle of the Clos, planted 1910. That's where this comes from great Clos de Vougeot, to rival the finest wines of Burgundy. It must be said that not only the land is suitable, adjacent to the Clos de Tart, but also that the methods are more drastic. The grapes are fermented whole, conducted in the vineyard farming, external inputs (yeasting, enzymage) nonexistent. The wine is aged in new oak barrels for three quarters, the rest of a wine cask.
Its concentration is pushed due to the age of the vines : yields are low, only two bunches per vine on average !
Highly aromatic nose, with scents of violet, chocolate and tobacco, it offers a huge volume, an extreme smoothness and elegance.
Allen Mellows, taster Burghound, established a promising prognosis for the cuvée Vieilles Vignes 2007 domain :
“I loved Labet's '07s from cask and bottle Now That they're in, THEY confirm all of my Enthusiasm. In Particular, the old vine cuvee is a stunning wine and a candidate for the Clos de Vougeot of the vintage“.
La cuvée « Classique » de Clos de Vougeot du Château de La Tour
Here is the little brother of Vieilles Vignes somehow, necessarily somewhat less concentrated, from vines of fifty years “only”, but must in his youth energy and boldness that the wise would not dare. Let those who think that nothing can replace the experience that taste so Clos de Vougeot long and powerful, the nose of cassis and violets, black fruit and mint. It requires nice way, on a dense but silky tannin. The long finish is remarkable.
